Donations to DCCC Spike after Clinton Threat To Pelosi

03 Apr 2008 10:04 am

The effort by Hillary Clinton’s bundlers to pressure Speaker Nancy Pelosi into retracting her comments about superdelegates has caused a spurt of Obama-linked donations to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democrats with direct knowledge of the situation said.

The letter, sent last week, was interpreted as an extortion threat; the 20 signatories seemed to suggest that they would withhold donations from the DCCC if Pelosi did not change her position. --- that superdelegates ought strongly consider the expressed will of voters in their states.

“We have been strong supporters of the DCCC,” the letter stated. “We therefore urge you to clarify your position on super-delegates and reflect in your comments a more open [view] to the optional independent actions of each of the delegates at the National Convention in August.”

But the letter may have backfired:, the DCCC saw a surge in online contributions, which officials there attribute to a mass action to protest the Clinton donor threat, and several major Obama donors called Speaker Pelosi and DCCC chair Chris Van Hollen asking how they could be helpful. Sources also said that several major Clinton donors, outraged at the letter sent in the name of the campaign, privately offered their assurances to the DCCC that no money would be cut off.

Mark Gorenberg, a member of Obama’s national finance team, and a long-time DCCC fundraiser, met with Pelosi last Friday.

“I met with the head of DCCC fundraising and agreed to dedicate real effort to raising money for the DCCC this coming quarter because they have 30 races to protect and at the same time there are 30 more republicans retiring and Nancy is the best,” Gorenberg wrote in an e-mail. “I assume the fundraisers in San Francisco will include hillary, obama, and edwards supporters. Nancy is a great unifying force out here and everyone loves her.”

Two sources close to Pelosi said that the Speaker did not appreciate being called out by the Clinton campaign so publicly. “I I can tell you she’s been disturbed about some of the Clinton campaign’s comments and tactics the last two months, especially saying John McCain would be a better Commander in Chief,” said one Washington-based Democrat who has spoken with Pelosi about the matter.

Pelosi has not endorsed; Clinton advisers and many journalists believe she is a secret supporter of Barack Obama's, although Pelosi aides insist that she's been careful to be - and to appear to be -- neutral.

Ha! Suck it!

Good. I was a bit worried by the "Ha, guess I'll donate to Obama again" posts that too many people were missing the best way to send a message with their money order. Also a relief that other big money people were added to the growing army of "would-be supporters turned off by the Clintons' tactics."

I don't know Pelosi's mind, but her public responses seem consistent with "shooting down annoying Clinton ideas that would harm the party" as opposed to any personal love of Obama. If you're a Democrat irritated by Clinton, there's only one natural home for you, but it's still hardly a positive endorsement of the not-Clinton candidate.

Didn't push this as hard as I had wanted to, but donate here if you want to help the spike roll on:

After all the Clinton shenanigans, I think there are a lot more Dems in high positions that are quietly working to crush her than we realize. A partial list of sins include:

- Endorsing McCain over Obama

- Bill playing the race card in SC, Hillary playing it a week after the Wright scandal died down

- Cozying up to Richard Mellon Scaife

- Having Ed Rendell tell Fox News that they had the most fair primary coverage

- Publicly slamming Bill Richardson for voting his conscience ... which is what Hillary said the super delegates should do

- Threatening Pelosi and the DCCC

The realization is sinking in that these two are no longer Democrats, they are Clintonicans. Nothing else matters but them.

Following up LFC's points, at TNR the Clinton camp is going after Richardson again. Because it's worked out so well for them the last few times.

The value of Richardson's endorsement grows each time they take aim at him and shoot their feet instead.

Because it's worked out so well for them the last few times.

Isn't there where one definition that states insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result?

Maybe Hillary - should switch parties, she keeps endorsing John Mccain.

Maybe Hillary - should switch parties, she keeps endorsing John Mccain.

Do you think she might be arrogant enough to run as a third party candidate just out of spite? She'd sacrifice every committee position she holds and possibly her Senate seat in the next election, but then again long-term strategy has not been her strong suit during this election.

The big donors are at it again. What I realize more and more is the entitlement of the upper classes. Understand that I believe that any family with a household income of less that $150,000.00/ yr can be considered 'poor'
We have been rooked, bilked, cheated for wll over 12 years. This war has drained billions of dollars from poor folk into the pockets of the super wealthy who have violated every moral, legal and ethical business practice to get ahead.
Now they want bailouts, hand outs, tax breaks to keep their money and keep them stealing
Poor folks need to join hands
The $25.00 and $200.00 donors need to join hands yet again
That rebate check/ stimulus monye is just bribe money. We are getting back a tiny fraction of what is owed to us. The oil, gas, money, power addicts left home to get groceries and return eight years later witha loaf of bread and expect us to be happy
The week that these checks come out, we should all put the checks under our mattress. DO NOT TOUCH the money. DO NOT CASH the check. And, the same week, DO NOT DRIVE or PURCHASE GAS
Turn down the thermostat
Stay home
Remember the Montgomery bus boycott
And, in two weeks, watch gas prices go down

Well, serves them right. I am sick of Hillary and her dirty tactics. Lying, attacking, throwing the kitchen sink at another Democrat, attacking Richardson for endorsing Obama, playing the fear, and race cards, and even crying for the cameras, have not changed Hillary's standing in this race.
Having your goons send a threatening letter to Pelosi, is playing Clintonian politics.
Shame on the Clintons, and I am glad it backfired on them.

I gave $20 to DCCC the day the letter came out. Extortion by mega-donors needs to be fought by the grassroots.

Is it a coincidence that this came out the same day as Obama's totals?

While the "letter" may have angered some enough to donate more money which must mean the economy isn't doing so poorly afterall, do remember that there are lots of democrats that DO NOT support Obama and they might never feel the love. If they think their voice doesn't matter, or if they feel their party has forsaken them and kicked them to the curb, they can use their vote to screw the party. It isn't the money that elects people, it is their vote. So far Obama has raised millions more than the other two candidates and yet he is even in the polls.

Didn't MoveOn send a letter asking for donations to the DCCC?

Susan - I think that's a product of Hillary being Hillary Clinton and not Hillary Rodham. Most people aren't paying attention to this thing as much as we are; name recognition is a big draw.

So blackmail didn't work? Hum, wonder what's next they will all threaten to become GOPERS. Please do, you won't be missed.

So blackmail didn't work? Hum, wonder what's next they will all threaten to become GOPERS. Please do, you won't be missed.

@LFC, the first item on your list, endorsing McCain over Obama, is the one that absolutely stunned me.

Before that happened, I really bought into the idea that both candidates were excellent, that loyal, lifetime Dems like me had an embarrassment of riches in this race. Sure, they were running very tough campaigns against one another, but good for them. We need more fight and more toughness on our side.

Moreover, I thought that how they defined themselves against one another was mostly accurate and fair. Hillary does have more experience, demonstrates a better grasp of the details and has an amazing capacity for resilience. Barack has consistently shown better judgement, is much more inspiring and seems more likely to be able to unite the country and restore our standing in the world. And it wasn't an obvious choice to me which was better.

That all changed the day Hillary said that the Republican nominee was more qualified than her Democratic opponent. I never imagined one of our leaders could ever say such a thing, not once, offhanded, and through a surrogate but insistently, several times over the course of a few days, and herself. It took me a week to convince myself it had actually happened. I kept rereading the statements and rerunning the videos over and over, trying to convince myself it was out of context, she didn't really mean it, it wasn't a big deal.

To no avail. It is a big deal. I'm a Democrat before I'm a Clinton or an Obama supporter. And therefore, I’m now in the unfortunate position of thinking that the only way to be a loyal Democrat is to do everything I can to make sure that Hillary Clinton faces the consequences of this kind of disloyalty to our party. It’s sad — but this now is a clear pattern of hers that we Dems can’t ignore. If, somehow, Hillary wins the nomination, count me among those DFLers who think the only way to be loyal to our organization is to promote an “Everyone But Hillary” approach to our votes in November.

I signed the email that move on sent out in defense of Nancy and I donated for the first time to any canidate. I donated to Obama. I am so sick of the clintons and their lies. The media coddles them and fox has had a witch hunt out for Obama so that is why the clintons think that fox is fair and balanced. By the way Hill, where are your TAX RETURNS? You promised them this week and the week is almost over!

HA!!! When will Clinton & Co. realize that the main benefactor of these attacks is their target, whether it's Obama or the DCCC?

WE THE PEOPLE in order to form a more perfect nation...

I sent contributions to both the DCCC and DSCC on the day of the news of the threatening letter to Speaker Pelosi. I am a 52-yr-old, white, woman, kool-aid drinking Obama supporter and contributor. I have had my fill of corporate arm-twisting. I work at a law firm which has a lobbying arm, and I know the power of lobbying efforts first hand. By the way, I am a middle income earner who is sacrificing groceries and other such "luxuries" in order to contribute to the political process for the first time ever in my life. Go Obama! Go Democrats!

I'm a Democrat before I'm a Clinton or an Obama supporter.

I'm personally more of an anti-Republican at this point than a Dem. Six months ago I preferred Obama, but would have felt OK voting for Hillary over anybody on the GOP side. That eventually changed. Now, the thought of her as Commander in Chief actually scares me. After the lies, some for no apparent reason, and counter-productive attacks, I honestly don't think she's stable.

Caveat: I would have voted for her over Giuliani. I would have voted for Ted Bundy (or Al Bundy for that matter) over him. That boy was dangerous. A perfect blend of Bush's arrogance and Cheney's evil. The thought of Hillary as POTUS is a bit scary. Rudy as POTUS was terrifying.

Act Blue may be legit, but here's the link to the dccc if you're interested in contributing directly to the committee: http://dccc.org/

I'm thrilled to hear about the donors who have stepped up. The threat by the clinton people was one of the most disturbing things I have come across. It made me wonder how The Clintons would handle the new powers of the presidency that shrub and dickie instituted. It's scary.

Does Nancy Pelosi's face look like it is always
Botoxed ?

Clinton didn't make the threat, her supporters did. Are we to judge each candidate by their supporters choices? Obama's supporters have been mean and bullying and personal in their attacks when I post anything. But no, I don't judge him by that. But the choice of headline here shows the clear Obama-love-fest and lack of professionalism as much as Peolosi's remark showed showed her own. When will be get past illusion to fact?

HILLARY FOR VP!

McCAIN/CLINTON '08! REPUBLICANS UNITE!

I am one of the people who donated money in response to that letter. I won't condone the kinds of tactics Senator Clinton's supporters resorted to.

The only money I give is to Hillary so she can win . Will not vote for Obama. As far as the DNC they have messed up so bad under Deans leadership its a joke. I hope the party gets it together, if not might have to change parties.
Mighigan and Florida need to count.

I have always been a Hillary Clinton supporter but would have accepted Obama as VP. No longer. This is not a game for kids but the kids have with very little education been led around by the nose by the Obama's. At this point I am only voting democrat if Hillary is the top of the ticket and Obama is not the VP. In fact I will leave this site and go directly to the Hillary Clinton site to find out how I can help, money, campaigning in PA or whatever. Obama is totally unelectable and has made a big fool out of the DNC. Whatever these new donators come up with will be this year only and for that the DNC will have lost it's regular long time supporters. If Obama is nominated then it will be with out the popular vote because once PA votes, Hillary will have the popular vote. Neither will have the number of deligates needed. Then some 30% of registered democrats plus independents will vote for the liberal conservative, McCain. Obama will never be President...those donating to his campaign have wasted their money. Your prize will be when McCain is elected he will replace the next 2 Supreme Court Justices and you young folks will lose abortion rights. Politics is not a game for beginners.

Obama was brought to America by the Kennedy's.....oops that was one of his lies

Obama didn't hear those racist comments in Rev. Wright's sermons....oops that was a lie too.

I bet his young daughters could repeat word for word the anti-white comments of Wright....that's the truth.

The only money I give is to Hillary so she can win . Will not vote for Obama. As far as the DNC they have messed up so bad under Deans leadership its a joke. I hope the party gets it together, if not might have to change parties.

Susan said "which must mean the economy isn't doing so poorly afterall, do remember that there are lots of democrats that DO NOT support Obama and they might never feel the love. MY response:
1. You still don't get it. The campaign accepts five dollar donations (and even a particular $3.01 donation of which it is very proud and touched). Each donation is not just the money. It represents the PERSON and his/her commitment. It is a grass roots campaign which individual people have a stake in, which they own. It is bottom up, not top down. So, Susan, its not about the money, its about the people. When others look to how much MONEY the campaign made in a month, we look to how many PEOPLE donated and how many NEW DONORS came on board. When we send comments and suggestions to Headquarters, we see them considered and often implemented.

When we together as individuals see something like the letter to Pelosi we discuss it among ourselves and decide as together (without HQ ) that we must let Pelosi know that we disapprove of that tactic and we support her support of democracy, we follow through with our letters of support and our donations to DCCC to show that the big money people cannot dictate to the party any more. It is becoming once again a party of the people. Many seem to believe that we are "plebs" have no part in the workings and decision making of the party. But here we are!

The issue is the grassroots element. If non-Obama supporters wish to organise in this way, they are free so to do. Obama supporters have nothing against non-Obama supporters, they just want to make sure that they too are heard although they do not have millions to donate.

2. Why should non-Obama supporters feel the party "has foresaken them or kicked them to the curb"? Because their candidate did not win? Look at that statement again and in fairness and objectivity, reconsider it.

3. As to Obama raising millions more than the others but still being even in the polls. That is because he was coming from way way way behind. Senator Clinton had the might of the position of First Lady for 8 years to make herself known to the public. Senator Obama at the start of this was really unknow. Guess what, though! People know about him now.

Scot: People do not know much of anything about Obama other than he began running for President before entering the US Senate 2 years ago and is a good speaker that listened to hate sermons at his church and taught his daughters to do the same. OBAMA IS NEVER GOING TO BE PRESIDENT.

Scott: We do not have a winner yet but given that FL will be seated and most likely MI too and add to that the PA votes which will heavily favor Clinton.....the winner will be Clinton and I would like to see her pick her own VP and not accept Obama for that position. I realize that many blacks will claim that they will not vote or vote for McCain but they would be cutting their own heads off to vote republican as a group......since it won't help them with any of their issues. If Obama were nominated then I would vote McCain but I am not a poor person that needs tax breaks or money for education or the right to an abortation or a get out of the draft card......the young black and white are the ones that should be concerned. Well don't worry because Hillary Clinton will be nominated and will win the Office......funny how the lord watches over the fools and saves them from themselves.

I'm an Independent and my criteria for a candidate had never included party loyalty until now. I suppose it's because I've never really had to ask the question. It's important to know your candidate of choice will be able to function within thier own party. On top of that, I want someone who can at least partially function as a bridge between parties. You need to have your footing before you make the leap.
The fact that Barack Obama has refrained from outlandish smear antics toward either party will fare well with him in future. There will be less bad blood. As far as his ablility to work well with others, he's coming out as the Democrat on top.

Why does it seem that HRC supporters are acting like their candidate is the first to have ever lost an election?

The funniest thing of all is that the Journalist Class remains in complete denial that Hillary Clinton is on the same level of talent as Mike Dukakis and Walter Mondale. Actually, I'm not sure she is even UP to their level.

What the Journalist Class has not yet figured out is that no amount of negative press towards Hillary ever eclipsed the much larger, paradigmatic Favoritism and Coddling that she has been granted since the race began. In fact, the cultural willingness to play along with the Inevitability Meme is the thing that really hurt her, the most. She didn't just make that one up on her own. The Press helped to knit that sweater, if you will.

This is one of the most egregious and ongoing cases of The Emperess Has no Clothes that I can remember. There is simply no "there" there.

She's a dud. Hillary Clinton fails the Politician 101 test. I cannot for the life of me figure out how so many smart people missed this.

Most HRC supporters are reasonable people. It's just her supporters on the internet who behave like petulant idiots. They remind me of Patriots fans on February 4.

Well said Nikki that's exactly it.

Gregor: The Emperor Has No Clothes is the line I have used to describe Ms. Ferraro's statement. I am sure you read it where it made sense. Remember like the story she was the only one speaking the truth about Obama and Obama called her, the lifetime civil rights worker a "racist". The no there "there" is Obama the empty suit.....no clothes

Vote Hillary Clinton or get McCain

I keep trying to figure out why some people dislike Senator Obama so. First, I thought they must be Republicans just pretending. Then, I realized they dislike Senator Obama so much simply because he is defeating the candidate they prefer, Senator Clinton.

Those of you who believe Senator Clinton can overcome a 700,000+ popular vote deficit with a win in Pennsylvania, do think again. That is highly unlikely.

Those of you who dislike Senator Obama so, examine this dislike please. If it is based as I believe in a frustration that your preferred candidate is not winning, do try and give Senator Obama a hearing (an objective hearing) and decide if you can support for what he stands. If we can come together, we can definitely put a Democrat in the White House on January 9, 2009 and increase our majorities in Congress. If we stay divided and lose we will have fulfilled the fondest wish of the Republican hierarchy. We can do this if we unite. Obama '08.

Blacks4Barack presents:
Hillary's Religion (cult ?) 'THE FAMILY'
Very Scary !
Prays To Jesus For The Elite To Rule The World

The media has repeatedly aired the short clips of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's rhetoric in attempt to discredit and smear Barack Obama. But what's even more interesting is the fact that the media never discusses Hillary Clinton's religion, which is extremely telling and even frightening. A closer look into her 'religion' gives one a clearer picture of why she is the way she is.In a recent article by Steven Brandt many truths about Hillary's religion, called ' The Family' will make you shutter. The question is....where's the media on this one ?

Brandt writes, "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend." said Hillary Clinton, to reporters and editors of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Tuesday the 25th. This is an interesting choice of words, since -- while we mostly hear about her Methodist upbringing -- Hillary Clinton has chosen to associate herself with The Family (also known as the Fellowship), a very conservative, fundamentalist organization started by Abraham Vereide...
"...an immigrant preacher who in 1935 organized a small group of businessmen sympathetic to European fascism, fusing the Far Right with his own polite but authoritarian faith. From that core, Vereide built an international network of fundamentalists who spoke the language of establishment power, a "family" that thrives to this day. In public, they host prayer breakfasts; in private they preach a gospel of "biblical capitalism," military might, and American empire. Citing Hitler, Lenin, and Mao, Doug Coe, the Family's current leader, declares, "We work with power where we can, build new power where we can't."
This quote is taken from the book on The Family by the same name which will be published in May... a book which claims to
"...dramatically challenge conventional wisdom about American fundamentalism, revealing its crucial role in the unraveling of the New Deal, the waging of the Cold War, and the no-holds-barred economics of globalization. The question Sharlet believes we must ask is not "What do fundamentalists want?" but "What have they already done?"
A long article was written about Hillary Clinton's participation in this organization last September in Mother Jones, and The Family, itself, was the subject of an extensive article in Harper's in March of 2003. And on March 21st, The Nation published an article on Hillary and The Family by Barbara Ehrenreich that was published on The Huffington Post and CBS News' web site.
The Family avoids the word Christian but worships Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the "meek." They believe that, in mass societies, it's only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God's "dominion" on earth. Insofar as The Family has a consistent philosophy, it's all about power - cultivating it, building it and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or "cells."
...wrote Ms.Ehrenreich.
Is it possible that Hillary's participation in this fundamentalist group -- which apparently preaches the "gospel of military might" -- would help explain her vote in favor of authorizing President Bush to attack Iraq? Is it possible her pro-NAFTA stance during her husband's administration comes from its embrace of "the no-holds-barred economics of globalization"? Is it possible that the sense some get that Hillary feels entitled to be president comes in part from this group's belief that "it's only the elites who matter"?
I encourage any reporter covering Hillary's campaign to ask her about all this.

At a time when so many people are wondering what sort of effect the Rev. Wright's sermons may have had on Barack Obama, I think it's only fair to ask what sort of effect The Family's fundamentalist mission has had - and continues to have - on Hillary Clinton. We know that George Bush engages in truly fundamentalist thinking. There is no person or new information capable of challenging his belief that what he already knows is right. Is Hillary Clinton like this in some way? I am not sure.

But the opinion I have formed from this is that - while Hillary Clinton may be considered a Liberal by many - on the inside she is a deeply Conservative person... possibly as close to being a Republican today as she was when she was a young woman supporting Senator Goldwater. This helps explain, to me, why she and John McCain are such good friends. They are both drawn to the use of military power and free market capitalism... and to taking money from lobbyists. The other opinion I have formed is that those who say there are no policy differences between Hillary and Barack haven't taken into account how their religious differences might impact the policies they would actually seek to implement as president.
(end of article)

So now a few things make more sense about Hillary. In review, she's in a kinda power-hungry cult which is actually run by her fellow Republicans which she is secretly one of ! It also makes sense why she could care less about detroying the Democratic Party. Also, beware of her claim to work toward ending the Iraq war. That is another great lie that she is telling. If you listen to her claims she commonly repeats ' I will start getting troops out within my first 60 days '.....How many ? 3....1000...10,000 ? Don't be fooled. Hillary has no desire to end the war. She'll bring 5 troops home then say that she kept her word.

The media should be called out for not exposing this cult. Problem is, they would also be revealing the truths about their fellow Republican's plan and prayers to 'rule the world' by any means. So it's up to us, regular Americans like you and I, to help spread the truth in spite of the media.....For The Re-Birth of America !

I'm completely behind Obama. I loathe Shrillary, her campaign, her surrogates- everything about her
is repulsive to me. I'm not convinced that she will end the war.
HOWEVER, given the choice between McCrazy and Shrillary, I would have to hold my nose and vote for her for ONE reason.

With McCrazy, we know for a fact that our citizens will continue to die in Iraq for many years to come. With Shillary, there is at least a small chance that she will get the troops out, thereby saving precious lives- both American and Iraqi- that would otherwise be lost.

Let's hope that the voters in Pennsylvania and North Carolina will end this mess and deliver our awesome candidate, Barak Obama, as our nominee.

How could ANYONE want the Clintons and all their lies, greed and baggage back in the White House is beyond my understanding.

But, in the end, it comes back to the war.The war's tentacles are destroying everything we care about, folks. We just cannot elect McCrazy out of pique.

Jodi: Despite what you might think (or hope for), it looks like Obama might be president after all, given that he's out-fundraised, out-campaigned everyone and is in the lead in popular vote and delegates. Is this not a fact? How is Obama NOT going to be president when the FACTS indicate that he's got the best chance?

I have a HUGE problem with the fact that the FEC (Federal Elections Commission) is not "operational" right now, according to Democracy21.org.

I have questions about how "Party Builder" software is being used in terms of the Democratic Party and fundraising during this election.

All Democrats have a right to know, don't we?

What would be really nice is to read an article about that. Soon. Very, very soon.

Maybe you could ask David Axelrod, Joe Rospars and Blue State Digital for some help?

Ethics? Don't they just mean everything in this election?

Dan,

The moment that Obama gets the nomination the 527's are going to hit Obama 24/7 with Rev Wright, Ayers, Meeks, Alice Palmer, and things that you and I haven't heard of yet. This will cause the independents and moderate democrats to desert him in droves. He needs those votes to win.

Remember what they did to Kerry, made a war hero a coward and a coward a president, twice. How about Max Cleland And if you don't think this will happen and wont work I think you are a little naive.

Everyone thinks that the reverend is old news, I guarantee he is on the back burner for now.

I could never vote for McCain but I have spoken to a lot of Democrats here in PA who will and the reason is the Rev and his speech. These are folks who don't read blogs or pay much attention to politics and don't get the nuances of this election. They only hear the sound bites.

You can say that they took 5 min out of 30 years but if you only hear the five minutes It doesn't matter. Obama will lose in the GE

Senator Obama will be the next President. This country is not so stupid that they would give George W. Bush a third term and that's what we would get with McCain. Another old white man who likes war. No thanks. And I'd rather have a nominee with a pastor problem than a nominee who's under fire by snipers in Bosnia.

tisha,
you say that michigan and florida should count? the reason michigan and florida will not count/was not counted is because the leadership of the democrat parties in both state decided to hold their elections on an early date, which the DNC made clear would render the votes negligible. The parties in Florida and Michigan should be required to step up to the plate to acknowledge their responsibility in the situation.
I am not an "Obamamaniac", but I am smart enough to recognize a politician who is dishonest and is willing to stoop to the lowest level in order to insure that no one get in the way of what is "rightfully hers or his".
I sincerely believe the American people have begun to recognize that we have suffered after eight years of Clinton and twelve of daddy and shrub bush. They want change, whether Obama can (at this time) explain what that change will look like or not. They have come to believe anyone would be better than what we have seen over the last 20 years.

Nowhere in the world, people treat ant of their former FIRST LADIES as Americans do.

We, Americans, spread hatred in the name of free speech. We insinuate personal attack that has nothing to do with good public service.

This primary camaign season has revealed the anger we keep burried in with our outside civility. Then we blame the government when school shooting occurs, when terrorists attck, when humility disapperas from even a kid's behavior.

We, Americans are really great, because our HATRED to another fellow being is just incomparable!

Above someone says: "The moment that Obama gets the nomination the 527's are going to hit Obama 24/7 with Rev Wright, Ayers, Meeks, Alice Palmer, and things that you and I haven't heard of yet. This will cause the independents and moderate democrats to desert him in droves. He needs those votes to win."

Ummm, no matter who the candidate is, this is going to happen. Do you think they aren't just as ready to jump on Clinton? Do you think they haven't been preparing for that moment for years and years?

They're going to be ugly and dirty no matter who the candidate is. And from a very small sample size of the independent-y voters in my family, the one person in this race they (both women) will NEVER vote for is Clinton. Obama, on the other hand? They're looking and listening and interested.

Jodi, your comments about Obama's supposed "lies" made me laugh. Did you know that Hillary Rodham was fired in 1974 by the chief counsel to the full Judiciary Committee during the Nixon impeachment proceedings for conspiring to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee, and the rules of confidentiality? I suppose you think someone who conspired to violate the Constitution would be a great choice for president. Someone who conspired to violate the rules the House would be a great President. Someone who has lied repeatedly, flagrantly, again and again, over her entire career, would prove an excellent president.

Jodi, try to be reasonable. Try to understand that a congenital liar, who claims one day she signed up for the Marines, and another day that she signed up for the Army (maybe tomorrow it will be the Air Force), is probably mentally unstable. Accept, if you can, that someone who has been baldly lying in public for some 34 years is prob--Oh MY GOD--I MUST EXIT THIS COMMENT SCREEN AS I AM COMING UNDER SEVERE SNIPER FIRE THIS VERY INSTANT!!! I SHALL UNDERTAKE EVASIVE MANEUVERING IMMEDIATELY!!!

Extortion Threat? What a joke!

Obama is trying to buy this election. He has not won in the big-swing states. He outspent Hillary 2 to 1 and still lost in RI, OH, and TX. If anyone is making threats, it is the media and the Obama supporters. The MSM has relinquised their journalism ethics. Oddly enough, SNL and Jon Stewart have really nailed the ridiculous media coverage.

I have never been a fan of Christopher Hitchens. However, his remarks about Obama's candidacy is so accurate. What a fraud!

If Obama is the nominee, I will vote for an Independent candidate or McCain. McCain is ten times better than Obama.

Carol Johnson

The Democratic Party cannot afford to lose the 2,000,000 voters from MI & FL. If they do, the Democratic nominee is toast in November.

Nancy is the best, made me spit coffee on my monitor. Lets see now. In the past 14 months oil prices (along with all connected products) have doubled, The booming housing market took a major hit, The stock markey took a hit, unemployment has started creeping up, Food prices are up 20-25%. Now just what happened in Jan 2007 to trigger all of the bad news. Well someone put the clowns in charge of congress and a circus broke out.

Carol Johnson/EWard....

There are fifty states. Hillary didn't win Texas. She won Rhode Island and Ohio? That's not very convincing.

Obama has not taken a penny of matching federal funds. If he is getting twice the donations that Hillary is getting, it's pretty simple to understand why. Twice as many people want him in office as they do Hillary, so they are sending their money to him. I'm one of them. I sent him $115 and had to eat cereal for a week. Vote for who you like. Let's keep playing Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton for ten more generations. Have you been to Iraq yet?

Keep fighting folks, the view from flyover land is beautiful! Oh, and keep sucking the money out of the donors pockets and then hypocritically say how GOP buys elections, are beholden to special interests, blah, blah, blah.

Gotta go refill the popcorn to watch and see what stupid thing Bubba says next or what b.s. "unity" line OhBama fawns faint over.

Keeping the White House Red for 2 times 4 more!

The Obama camp liked the idea that Superdelegates NOT vote the way they may want, but should vote for Obama. The DNC has got into a mess and now they would like Hillary to be a "good girl" and step aside - something they never would dare consider had Hillary been a male contender. The Obama camp does not care that many states have not yet voted nor does Michigan or Florida get to vote - they just want their mess cleaned up soon. So Obama supporters like the way the DNC has handled things (to the Obama benefit since he faired poorly in Florida and Michigan and the DNC wants Hillary to quit now) and so they send money to the DNC. It is like contributing extra money to Obama above the $2300 limit. Great!

It's funny to read these sniping liberals! I really thought it would be the R's carrying on over a Rudy/Romney clash, or some such thing. How did we luck out with our contest being settled to quickly and peacefully? Maybe because we are adults?

God knows I hated McVain, but I am OK with him now. Get used to seeing another old WHITE MAN in the driver's seat.

Why all the shrillness, disinformation and whining Carrie? I have been supporting Obama since the day he declared his candidacy. I have never gotten one bit of information from the campaign that suggested any of the things that you allege. So where are you getting this whacko information?

We want the campaign to come to its logical conclusion. We want people to vote. It will be a fine way for the proof to rise to the top and end the whining, incompetence and lying. Whatever the Hill&Billobots claim, their campaign is mired in deceit, infighting, poor management and a failure to recognize the value of leveraging the information age and its tools; or, to hone a message and implement a plan to deliver it clearly: all skills that a leader must demonstrate and Hillary has failed in these.

In other words, Hillary Clinton's campaign is a dinosaur, unprepared and lost in the 21st century. Arrogant at its core, the HRC campaign failed to consider that in a country of over 300 million people there might actually be someone capable of fully taking on both Hillary and Bill and her campaign machine, and further, whipping her like a rented mule on a hardscrabble farm.

Its no wonder that people supporting Obama, or who supported Edwards & Kucinich--or even Hillary supporters who don't like bullies--gave money to the DCCC to send a message that bullies can't win with big bucks anymore. The people are taking back their government.

Just tell me one thing - you think Hillary Rodham Clinton is going to be spared by the 527s? Or have you ODed on that kool aid bottle that says she's been vetted? If she's vetted, I am an Olympian. I am sure they will "find" really shady characters Bill and Hill have supped with to fund his library or initiative. You can easily foresee a couple of intern boomlets. Oh, Vince Foster's inferius will walk the world again. Remember, they always knew she was gonna run one day. They have had the greatest advantage a slimer wants - foreknowledge and the time it provides.

If you are going to decide based on what the 527s will do, just put your hands on your head, and surrender the Presidency to JSM Jr. No Dem is safe from that machine.

Kim and Dan: Do the math. PA has over 4 million registered dems. If 75% vote and Clinton takes the win at 60% to 40%....that would be 1.8 million votes for Hillary to 1.2 million for Obama....the 600,000 plus votes for Hillary pretty much erases Obama's lead and that is before counting FL which is going to count giving Clinton more. Now there are 9 primaries after PA and the only one Obama might win is NC. The popular vote will be with Clinton by the end and neither will have the 2025 deligates needed. The rules say that super deligates are to vote for the most electable candidate and after Hillary wins the last 9 out of 10 contests plus the fact that she has won all primaries for big states including those dems need, she is the most electable candidate. Obama has been threatening an up roar if the super deligates did not back the candidate with the most popular vote when he thought that would be him and now we hear Obama saying that the one with the most pledged deligates should win. Well sorry Obama but the rules are written and you Obama do not get to change the rules mid stream. Hillary will be nominated or McCain will win. In another year and if he had not played the race card Obama could have won but not this year....he can not compete with the experience of Hillary or McCain.

Tom Burnett : Hillary Clinton won the primary in Texas. Yes I know that Obama won the caucus in Texas but there are no caucuses in the general election and Obama has zero chance of carrying Texas in the general as not even Hillary is likely to carry Texas in the general but she would have a better chance than Obama.

Carolyn Grace: you said, "This country is not so stupid that they would give George W. Bush a third term" This is the same country that elected Bush when they had the choice to vote Gore who is brilliant. Instead they voted the guy they would like to have a beer with...Bush and see what we got. It will be the same if young people managed to elect Obama...just a guy to have a beer with not a guy to run this country.

Caroline then you said: " And I'd rather have a nominee with a pastor problem than a nominee who's under fire by snipers in Bosnia." No one with an IQ over 70 which is just high enough to button their own shirt, would rather have a man that taught his 2 young daughters to learn Wrights white hatred. I am white and raised my children to be color and gender blind but it is obvious that Wright wishes to keep teaching white hatred. There is no comparison between the 20 years of listening to Wright and Hillary's embelishment of a plane trip to Bosnia. The Bosnia embelishment is comparable to Obama's claim that the Kennedy's brought him to America 5 years before they brought anyone to America from Africa...embelishment....or his parents had him because of a march also some 5 years after he wa born.....embelishment. As a young woman please stop buying hook line and sinker the media BS.....the media all earn more than 250K per year and will all (including Chris Matthews) vote for McCain....they push Obama in the primary because he is clearly the weakest candidate and easy to beat. I believe the votes will have Hillary in the lead with popular votes at the end and she will be the nominee but please stop buying media BS or they will have you voting republican by Nov.

It's so amusing to see that the liberals on this blog have finally recognized the Clintons for who they really are; something conservatives have known for, oh, 17 years or more. Maybe some day you'll catch up and see Hussein for what he really is, too. He is cut from the same mold as Hillarity. A marxist-socialist who wants equal outcome as opposed to equal opportunity. When the leftists achieve their goal, you will see lines of people at the markets looking for toilet paper and a bit of meat to put on the table. History shows us that liberal (socialist) policies fail every time. You libs will be better off voting for a Republican lib (McCain) and putting pro-capitalists in the congress. Say good-bye to your money, if you vote for a democRat.

People do not know much of anything about Obama other than he began running for President before entering the US Senate 2 years ago...

jodi--I know this may be difficult for you because it involves reading, but if you don't know anything about Obama, why don't you go to your local library and check out his autobigraphy.

I wish I could read this article but the font is way too tiny!

Jodi, a Clinton supportuer, writes: "Then some 30% of registered democrats plus independents will vote for the liberal conservative, McCain..."

Dear Jodi,

Please support whichever primary candidate you believe will be best. It's great that you're going to Senator Clinton's website to see what you can do: it's your right, and it's important that we all support the candidates we believe are best.

But please, Jodi: do a little research on John McCain, too. He is not a "liberal conservative": he is, and has always been, a very very conservative Senator. This is not a personal attack, and I did respect him for his strong stand against torture (until he voted for a bill that allowed it), and his willingness to speak out for sensible immigration reform (until he backed off during his primary campaign). But his core positions are not liberal, and anyone who supports a progressive and just society that offers opportunity to all and protects the weak against exploitation should be very cautious about a McCain presidency.

In the end, we each make our choices as best we can...but please, find out more about McCain before swallowing the media adulation that makes you think he's a 'liberal conservative'!

Thanks!

For the sake of our country, all you guys had better hope that neither Barry or Cankles get into the White House. They are both socialist pricks.

Jodi: No primary has ever receieved 75% participation not even in THIS RECORD-BREAKING CMAPAIGN. Why would Pa. be different? Short-answer, it won't/ 30% is high turnout so if we go with 25% and an HRC blowout 60/40, that 1M Dems voting and 400,000 vote advantage for HRC. But there are no votes elsewhere for here to get given NC is the biggest contest remaining and an Obama blowout would(which could happen) would reverse most of her gains.

Now, I'm not suggesting she drop out bu vt the notion that she';ll win 9 out of 10 is laughable when that includes OR, Montana & S.D. And if she's writing a narrative off of Guam & P.R. she's in deeper trouble than I thought. Also the big states argument is bogus. Its seems to be some kool-aid drinking with the suggestion that the Democratic Nominee wouldn't win NY or CA, which utterly ridiculous. So what big states are left? NJ-In her backyard but somehow is in the same polling toss-up w/McSame as Obama. How is that? MI-Does anybody believe the Dems will lose Michigan to McSame of all people? Does ANYBODY really believe that? Polling shos Obama beats MCCain in OH, just not as badly as HRC does but to qoute Howard Wolfson "a win is a win". Which counters the claim "he can't win", but eschewing polling data runs contrary to the arguments being made in favor of electability(BASED ON POLLING). The circular logic of the HRC campaign is reaching comical proportions. Which brings us to FL. and frankly FL. is not a must, esp. for Obama when he could put into play VA, OR, CO, NV, NM. And I believe WI and MN will be more strong for him than they were for Kerry, so no potential losses there. It occurs to me Obama is creating a path to victory not trying to follow one.

I will never nor could ever vote for Barack Obama. At 46 I cannot accept that a man can attend a church for 20 years, be married by a Pastor and have his children baptized by a Pastor who calls another a "nigger", condemns the United States for the condition of black people, ignores the plight of other minority groups such as gays, Asians, Latinos, the disabled and concerns himself only with the plight of African Americans. I totally disagree with the premise of African American Supremacy. I understand exactly why Obama put Pastor Wright behind closed doors for a year before someone opened the door for him. As a gay, disabled person, I understand Michelle Obama's pain. I have been called every name in the book. I have been questioned why I need the equipment I use for my disability. If I spent my life answering such questions, I would not have a life. Who is she to complain? Look how lucky she is and what God has given her. What the USA has given her. Girl, get over it and move on. teach the world. Stop bitchin. And you white people who feel bad because you ain't done nothin to help the black cause ain't helpin the black cause by given to a man who ain't done nothin to help black people. He just copies text and verse from others. You need to volunteer your time, do something positive with yourselves to help people who are discriminated against. Given money to Obama makes you feel better? Wait til you see how little he does when/if he gets into the White House. A professor of mine once said, "Never hitch yourself to a rising star." Barck Obama isn't half the person Hillary Clinton is and has been for black people. Just review what she has done for the community. Review her work.

Pelosi has been backing Obama the racist all along. What? Is the old hag jealous of Clinton? She probably wants to be the only powerful woman around. Vain old thing, go get some more surgery.

Could Obama possibly be more milque toast, airy fairy, snobby elitist? He steals speeches from MLK and people think he's great. Yuck. He isn't down to earth at all. If he becomes president, he will fall to pieces under the pressure. Clinton has the backbone.
