Ex-Clinton Insider Launches Unity Ticket Drive

Hillary/Obama '08 becomes official today. In a way.

A Clinton insider who served as ex campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle's executive assistant for several years has set up a new website, http://www.voteboth.com/ and plans to register with the Federal Election Commission today.

VoteBoth urges Democrats to support a joint Clinton-Obama ticket.

Its creator, Adam Parkhomenko, resigned from the campaign three weeks ago.

He had been one of the first employees of the 2006 incarnation of Clinton's political action committee, HillPAC, and his proximity to the powers of the campaign will raise the question of whether the effort is sanctioned by the campaign. (Parkhomenko says that the idea was his own.)

The website features a petition to members of the Democratic National Committee "to support a unity ticket with both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."

Five years ago, another unauthorized Parkhomenko website, VoteHillary.org, caught the attention of Clinton; he was hired by Solis Doyle in 2005.

They picked the wrong picture for this. I can't find the research anymore, but I remember a study that said that when looking at a picture of two people discussing, arguing, etc., people assume the person on the left is correct. This result reverses in cultures where people read right to left.

Back in my previous career in directing in theatre, I used this notion all of the time to manipulate perception.

Finally, I agree with Kristen. These people give Machiavelli a bad name.

Adam Parkhomenko is monumentally obsessed with Hillary in a very unhealthy way. I used to work for HillPAC/FOH and can tell you I've been waiting for something like this since I heard he had left the campaign. When I saw this headline I knew exactly who was behind this push.

Parkhomenko goes back way way further than 2006. He was one of the people who urged Hillary to run in 2004 and was working for HillPAC/FOH since at least 2002.

My thought is an echo of several previous: blech. This ticket wouldn't mix at all. Now, I do think that Clinton-Obama is more feasible than Obama-Clinton, because as weak as Senator Clinton's presidential candidacy is, she would be an even worse vice presidential candidate, especially on an Obama ticket (she'd sink it like a rock).

I do think that Kevin's comment on right-to-left bias is interesting, though. Personally, I can't see this catching on any time soon. The only thing that this could possibly do is reduce the bleeding, since Obama supporters aren't going to go to this website (maybe I should stop the sentence there) and say, "Hmm...yeah, maybe my candidate should concede the race while he's far ahead and accept a role in an administration that has few inherent powers."

Clinton shouldn't be on the democratic ticket come the fall. I personally think that Gov. Sellibus is the best VP Obama has right now: she's a governor, strong on domestic issues, was against the war, and would pull back the female base of the party.

The fact is, Obama is going to go into this with a percieved national security deficit and picking a VP to ameloriate this won't help at all. Cheney didn't do that for Bush in 2000.

Nope, the best thing is to choose someone who can deliver and Gov. Sellibus can deliver Kansas and the woo women back to Obama on the top of the ticket.

This is just a pathetic attempt to generate publicity and position Clinton back onto the ticket.

I agreed with you until I realized who the ads intended audience was. Clintonites are already going to vote for her. So who is left to convince? Obama people. I think its possible they chose this picture on purpose because it makes Obama supporters feel good. Heck, I almost had an emotional warm feeling about the ad before my intelectual side remembered what was really being pushed. My guess is that the picture was a placating move to make Obama supporters feel like they ARE right and would be winning. Just my take though.

yes I do. I know he's 17 going on 56 as a person (complete with hairline). Ok yes, he's 23 now and was one of two people urging Hillary to run in 2004. they hired him and sued the other guy.

I know the reason I left had nothing to do with Hillary (who I think is a great Senator for me, being from NY) but rather to do with Patti Solis Doyle and her cult of self-serviance. She was abusive to staff and supporters alike. The second she fired Patti in favor of Maggie Williams I was afraid for Obama because it would drag on and she finally had competent support and management.

Call me a fibber, I don't care. I know the people involved, and know Parkohmenko well enough to know he won't stop until she is president.

Last ditch effort at salvaging her executive branch chances, I say (although I'm open to other ideas). Although with her, I'd watch over my shoulder every second.

You're asking us to accept the underlying suggestion in the image when that's exactly what's so offensive. Yes, she's supposed to look subserviant and magnanimous and like a uniter, which is in direct contrast to her actions before in the campaign when she suggested that he be her VP (as the line "Clinton/Obama '08" does), when she was simultaneously claiming that Obama was not qualified to be President (and therefore Vice-President).

Take off your combination beer-goggles/rose-colored glasses and rub the 8 year-old dust out of your eyes. "She did offer to help" reflects your understanding of a few things: that (A) her campaign is behind this, (B) that she and you think her presence is actually helpful and (C) that only through her is victory possible. She's doing a favor? Ha!

There's a reason the Republicans took the House for the first time in 30+ years under the Clintons. There's a reason Rush Limbaugh is urging partisan Republicans to vote for Clinton in the primaries. Nothing gets the right-wing more energized that the name Clinton - which ironically enough is Hillary's main selling point. And it gets them energized for good reason - the Clintons are actively making sure they are the most corrupt politcal family in America, which is pretty hard given the way we know Bush got into office.

Hillary brings nothing to the ticket except her and her husband's endless list of controversies. Every strike against Obama is a valid strike against Hillary, so if you're an advocate for using the VP slot to "shore up" support in weak areas, Hillary is at the very bottom of the list.

Jim Webb or Wes Clark or Joe Biden or Chris Dodd or Kathy Sebelius or the head dog catcher in Bangor, Maine would be more helpful than her. At least the dog catcher doesn't have the drama of the late 90s tied to him.

Not only that, but Hillary exemplifies everything Obama has based his campaign on standing against: divisive, manipulative politics, and Democrats not standing their ground on important issues and then crying about it later. He doesn't shy away from referring to the "politics of the 90s" in negative terms, which is a thinly-veiled prod at her and her husband.

Hillary is a serial liar and Obama doesn't need her tied to his campaign. Once the women's magazines start publishing articles about how Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance in this election, the feminists who somehow think Hillary would best represent their interests simply because she's a woman would fall back in line. Obama doesn't need Hillary; she would inhibit his call for a "break from the politics of the 90s".

I am not even sure why he would want to be a VP on a winning ticket. There are reasons that certain politicians can help their careers by becoming VP. Its an essentially powerless position but it offers a chance to "ride coattails" on a successful administration. While the effectiveness of this a campaign pitch is certainly overrated, its probably the best chance some politicians have to put themselves in position for a Presidential run.

That is not the case for Obama. Its not even the case for Clinton. Neither of them really have anything to gain politically by basically taking the next 4-8 years off sitting around the White House twiddling their thumbs and accomplishing nothing. What is really the point of this sort of nonsense?

brent - For all his faults, Dick Cheney did do one thing: make the Vice Presidency valuable again. He managed to do so by getting GWB to stock the cabinent with Cheney's people, primarily Rumsfeld.

I think Obama is a stronger personality than GWB, but hypothetically speaking, if Obama/Clinton was elected, do any of us doubt that she'd insist on having her cronies find their way into the cabinet so that she and Bill could exercise disproportionate influence on the policies of the United States?

The timing is odd indeed. The meaning that comes across is that it is late in the game and the only way to get Clinton on the ticket is on Obama's coattails. So, despite the hocus-pocus of Clinton/Obama, the true meaning of this effort is to at least get Hillary on the ticket, so the hidden premise is Obama/Clinton. However, I don't think it will work. Obama has several better choices, including at least one female, Kathleen Sebelius, two-time governor of Kansa, an early Obama supporter.

As a Baby Boomer who has been in politics for years. I have been saying for months that Obama can't get elected in November. We are being set up and many naive Obama supporters are going to get the lesson of their lives. Red states are not going to vote for Obama in November. They are just messing with us. But Obama supporters don't have a clue as to how the political game is played. (It's state by state, not popular vote.)

I REALLY hate to say this, but when it comes down to it, many white men will not vote for Obama. All the racists are not dead yet. They view this as their last stand for white power. I have written many progressive talk shows who are pushing Obama and doing nothing but Hillary hate speech. I tell them the same thing, but they never respond. They never take the subject up.

Not only that, these hate talkers are only hurting & turning off the Democratic base. And who is the Democratic base? WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!

Many women have told me just how pissed off they are at the progressive talk shows, the pro Obama press, and the naive Obama supporters. Will they vote for McCain? NO! But many have said they won't vote for president. As a political junkie, I know that is a vote for McCain.

I blame a lot of the progressive talk show hosts for this whole mess.
(One host has called Hillary a whore!)

Either Obama and Clinton should run together or else we need someone else. (Edwards or Gore would be great).

There are not enough young voters to overcome the white male vote and the pissed off female vote.

More than anything we need a Dem in the White House. But what have we done?????????

Whomever wins the nomination still needs the voters from the 2nd place campaign to beat the other party's nominee.
Obama will absolutely need the Hillary voters (all of them) and Hillary would absolutely need the obama supporters (most of them) so if the second place democrat brings 1500 delegates into the convention there absolutely will be some placating going on.
Obama is trying to get to Denver without cutting deals and that looks like a mistake. the closer he gets to the convention the more he will have to bargain away.
His weekly poker games with Illinois lobbiests may not have prepared him for the stakes in this game where he seems not willing to ante up.

If Hillary's women are going to take their dollies and dishes and go home and sulk because the American people decided they wanted something other than someone sucking up to the same people who tried to destroy her for fifteen years, then they deserve John McCain, they deserve to lose Roe v. Wade, and they deserve the "Handmaid's Tale" society they're going to live in.

It's only too bad they're going to pull the rest of us down with them.

BayAreaVoter - This is the essence of Hillary's message about Michigan and Florida at this point: they need their voices heard! It flies in the face of democracy! Sounds great!

...except she was for their voices "not counting" before she was against it. And to count those states as they stand would disenfranchise the people that didn't show up because they were told their delegates were stripped. Is it a coincidence that Florida and Michigan are the ONLY states in which Democratic turnout was less than Republican turnout? Nope! It's because Dems were told they wouldn't count.

Not only that, but her reasoning for staying in the race is that delegates - of any sort, including pledged delegates - aren't bound to any candidate. But pledged delegates represent the voters that made them pledged delegates in the first place, meaning that pledged delegates represent the voices of the people that have voted. Meaning that Senator Clinton's only chance at winning the nomination flies in the face of her argument for having Florida and Michigan either seated or having re-votes.

Truly this is evidence of a campaign gone to the shitter!

The only way those two could run for the Presidency on the same ticket is if they were married. Even then, it might not be viable.

They have nothing in common except their policy positions, and even then, since their styles are as much at odds as they appear to be it's hard to imagine them achieving anything constructive.

What a shame Parkhomenko just put up a petition. I was hoping for a place to actually discuss the concept.

Obama is the only one that should be on the ticket, along with whomever he picks as the VP. Hillary is a liar and will not tell the American people the truth. Over the past week, she has been caught in a couple of WHOPPERS! It's pretty sad and then the history of her lying and stealing 34 years ago...

Not buyin' it. Obama is ahead. Why on earth would he take second seat to Hillary? The Clinton's have had their chance.

Moreover, the resume padding by Hillary shows just how little experience she actually has. Indeed some of it is negative experience (Iraq vote). Try as she might she cannot concoct enough exaggerated stories about how she solved the problems of the world (with no clearance), "saved" No. Ireland, when she did no such thing, and ducked incoming in Bosnia (not!). She claimed to be against NAFTA all along. She wasn't. Now Mark Penn "left" the top strategist position, but he didn't really. He's just had a change of title. And then, as if the above isn't enough, it now turns out Hillary dissembled about the sad health care story she has told for days. the woman DID have insurance and Hillary is not telling the truth.

Honestly, you would thing she'd learn. We are in a new century and need new leadership. Enough is enough.

Her conduct of her campaign is the opposite of everything Obama stands for, and he would be effing crazy to add her to the ticket and try to explain it with a straight face. After the convention, he could spend his time on the road explaining the various scandals that will inevitably fall out of the Clinton's walk-in skeleton closet. Then if he got elected despite dragging the Clinton baggage train, he could look forward to having both Clintons sabotaging him in Congress and elsewhere.

If the Clintons choose to reside in a cesspool, I commend their freethinking approach, but not their sense of tasteful interior design. Equally, I see no reason to visit for the weekend. The idea of a unity ticket lost all credibility when Ms Monster began endorsing John Fester McCain as CinC.

Absolutely, Hillary and Obama BOTH need to be on the same ticket.

If not, then 50% of the Democrate voters will be furious if their candidate is not involved in the President race, and they will not vote.... or worst vote for McCain.

This will give the President to McCain by default.

For the good of the party and our country, we need BOTH Hillary and Obama to run on the same ticket and beat McCain.
