Is McCain Angry At Gov. Mark Sanford?

16 Apr 2008 02:00 pm

David Freddoso has sources who tell him that Sen. John McCain remains angry with S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford for not endorsing him ahead of the South Carolina primary. Thus Sanford, a tax-cutting, environmentally-conscious, spending-paring governor is no longer on McCain's short list. I've heard something a bit different. McCain was a bit angry but after a series of conversations with Sanford, has come to respect Sanford's point of view on the matter. Sanford, for a variety of reasons, promised, in public, to stay neutral. He kept his promise despite intense lobbying from McCain allies in the state. He told McCain that he did not want to reneg on his promise, and McCain, being a man who respects someone who hold fast to principles, told Sanford that he accepted the explanantion.I don't know whether Sanford is on McCain's short list or not, but I do know that Sanford and McCain are not on the outs, and that they do communicate, and that McCain's hard feelings have softened.

"McCain, being a man who respects someone who hold fast to principles. . ."

Marc, did you cut and paste this from the McCain campaign? Because there's some evidence out there, you know, that McCain has not exactly been one to hold fast to his own principles.

McCain is a very angry old man. It is a very well known fact that McCain has a temper.

By the way, "McCain, being a man who respects someone who hold fast to principles".. are you joking Marc? McCain will sell himself to anyone to get elected.

It turns out that Bill Clinton is also a very angry old man - and a degenerate to boot. And a draft dodger. Apparently, it didn't matter when it came to fitness for the Presidency.

Come to think of it, many people in Obama's inner circle are hacked off, angry old men and women as well.

CHANGE. HOPE. CHANGE. HOPE. HOPE. CHANGE.

Real great policy prescriptions there, right?

McCain, being a man who respects someone who hold fast to principles....

...I do know that Sanford and McCain are not on the outs,

And people wonder why us citizens hate journalists. First of all, you provide no basis for the first statement, other than your own belief that McCain is this man you think he is.

As for the second one, well if you do know that McCain and Sanford get along, then why not share the reason why you know? If you consider yourself a reporter, then report. Tell us what you know. I hate this whole secret knowledge bs. Give me a break.

And lastly, if you do know this is not true, why post about it to create the idea that there is a conflict only to debunk it (without any evidence) at the end?

Does Marc Armbinder know what a strawman is?

"Hold fast to principles"?

Except on social principles, e.g., Jerry Falwell

Except on economic principles, e.g., Bush tax cuts

Should we go on, Marc?

Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.

The word is "renege."

McCain is angry about everything. John McCain= Mr. Magoo

Ann,

He's not Mr. Magoo. He's Bob Dole.

My meager contribution: As a South Carolinian, I can tell you that Sanford would be McCain's Quayle. So I hope he's not too, too angry.

Hopefully, McCain can carry South Carolina without Sanford on the ticket.

Given his life experiences, McCain doesn't suffer fools lightly. That's an admirable trait.

Better headline:

Sanford, shunned.

:-)

I have seen Sanford on several shows since the SC primary, and he is a avid supporter of McCain. I don't think John McCain would chose him because SC is definitely going Republican. He will go with a governor in a toss up state or region. I think he should pick Jodi Rell, who cleaned up Connecticut.

Stanford was the only one who I think would have a chance at beating out Tim Pawlenty for the nod.

If Pawlenty wants it its his.

For goodness sake, please take Sanford. He is completly useless here in SC...he moans and groans about low taxes and small government but is so lacking in leadership qualities that SC has one of the fastest growing governments in the counrty.

PLEASE TAKE SANFORD>>>WE NEED HIM TO GO!

McCain won't pick Pawlenty if he wants to win back some of the base. Pawlenty is no conservative. The Gov. of Minnesota? Not!

McCain needs CA and Texas, delegate-rich states. Hillary won in CA. McCain has a shot at CA and a better shot at TX. If he was REALLY smart, he'd pick someone like Sheriff Joe Arpaio from his own state. That would bring back the base! But Sheriff Joe is not a young man and the tix would look old. Therefore, I suggest that McCain pick someone like Rep. Ted Poe or Rep. John Culbertson of TX, staunch anti-Invasion leaders. Both men are pushing Bush to pardon Ramos and Compean.

There are other excellent conservatives that would bring part of the base back for McCain--Rep. Virgil Goode of Virginia, Rep. Walter B. Jones of North Carolina and countless others. The problem McCain faces is the Amnesty/illegal alien issue with conservatives, notwithstanding his Gang of 14 efforts to block conservative judge picks of Bush. If McCain picks a leader in the fight against illegal immigration, he'll win. If, instead, he goes with a good ole boy from the Open Borders Bush camp like Rob Portman, we'll get President Obama.
