Majoring In Hype

15 Apr 2008 10:48 am

Hillary Clinton's campaign has scheduled what it’s calling a "major endorsement" announcement for noon today at the PA state Capitol in Harrisburg. How major are we talking?

Looks like something of the overblown and over-hyped variety.

Sources say Clinton will simply be rolling out a group of local mayors, some of whom have already announced their support for Hillary. Expect Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski (D), who officially committed to Clinton yesterday, to be the biggest billing. – Nora McAlvanah

I heard she's going to pick up 20 Superdelegates today!

People connected to Edwards say it's going to be him & Elizabeth.

Big Bird is going to come out today and endorse Hillary Clinton today in PA. She is really playing up this endoresement.

The reason, Big Bird says, is because Hillary is so full of bird shiza that he feels he has to do it!

George Clooney?

Al Gore?

Martin Sheen?

Charlie Sheen?

Stop keeping us in suspense, Marc. How big? Big enough to shift Slate Magazine's "Hillary Deathwatch"?

Is she getting the Sierra Club endorsement? Earth Day's coming up.

Maybe Al Gore & the Sierra Club together?

THIS REALLY IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR HILLARY "ROCKY ANNIE OAKLEY" CLINTON!!!

Hillary Clinton’s campaign will announce today that she has the support of 100 Pennsylvania mayors. The announcement is planned for noon at the Capitol in Harrisburg.

A number of mayors, including Harrisburg’s Stephen R. Reed, picked Clinton over Barack Obama earlier this year. Clinton will not attend today’s announcement. Her staff says she is preparing for Wednesday night’s debate with Obama in Philadelphia.”

PC is reporting that this is a "major endorsement announcement" that the candidate is too busy to attend?

You heard it right Deborah!

And the Auditor General of PA, a popular Democrat in western PA is coming out and endorsing Obama. That one endorsement equals all 100 mayors.

You can't paint a black guy as a elitist. No such thing exists.
My god, I haven't heard a more funny tag line in my life. Put Obama in a sport's jersey and he looks like a football player or coach. People have already seen him up close, they know the truth. This whole business is a storm in a teacup.

Only 20 percent bothered to show up. Here's the link: http://www.philly.com/philly/wires/ap/news/state/pennsylvania/17741139.html. That sound you hear is the wind going out of the balloon.

Since Hillary couldn't make it, it's as well that 81 of the 100 were busy, too.

Marc or Nora -

Are any of the newly announced mayors also going to the convention as a Superdelegate?

Give us reporting, not just regurgitated press advisories.

The people who say bad things about Hillary are people I hope to never meet.

Big Bird says he is truly sorry for endorsing Clinton.

He feels so sorry for her and believes she has become a laughing stock, a joke, so to speak.

He believes she looks like a big fat baffoon and wonders who would ever vote for a liar such as her.

PS to Big Bird: Half of the stupid democratic party, that's who!!

Hillary deserves the Big Bird endorsement, if only for pooping on people. Lets face it, that is her only talent. Right now Hillary's trying to poop on Barack Obama, before that it was ... well, lets go back. In a current Pennsylvania political ad, 3 year-old Hillary Rodham, arms extended, toddles toward the home-movie camera. Hillary's present-day voice-over explains, the Rodham family cottage, down by the lake, lacked indoor plumbing. It was hardship borne from the start. Yet, more telling events seem to fall by the wayside. Take twenty-seven year old Hillary's first real job. The upshot: Jerry Zeifman fired Hillary for unethical practices during the Watergate Investigation. Why was Hillary fired? “Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in a recent interview. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

Not only does Mr. Zeifman’s account go to character, it goes to a lifelong pattern of lying and obfuscation. It took Zeifman twelve years to get his story aired. After Watergate, Zeifman could not recommend Hillary for any subsequent position of public or private trust, nor furnish her with a letter of recommendation. After that, Hillary's employment record is one of strict nepotism, cronyism, and amnesia.

Although few suspected the lengths to which Hillary would go, a leopard never changes her spots. According to Mr. Zeifman, it’s not just Hillary’s dishonesty; that’s a fact not in dispute. More to the point is the overall timeframe in which she has behaved in a fraudulent manner. "The Clintons corrupted the soul of the Democratic Party." -Henry Ruth, lead Watergate courtroom prosecutor. Again, Hillary Clinton is a bold-faced liar, who will stop at nothing. Should anyone doubt either Mr. Zeifman, or Mr. Ruth’s veracity regarding the Clintons, dispute this: http://theseedsof9-11.com

People connected to Edwards say it's going to be him & Elizabeth.

Citation, please? I haven't seen this anywhere else, and I'd imagine it wouldn't exactly be hard to find. This would be a big deal.

However, I also think that such a move by her (and Edwards) would irritate and upset Gore and Carter, who apparently are closet Obama supporters. It's a bit smart, though - Carter and Gore have quite publicly said they'd abstain from declaring support until the convention, whereas Edwards (to my knowledge) hasn't. Since Reid and Pelosi have their hands tied, that makes Edwards the biggest fish to catch as far as endorsements go.

Anyway, I don't see where Edwards would get off on supporting Clinton, except for her healthcare plan that he and Elizabeth seem to be in agreement with. Edwards has to know that Hillary will bring more Republicans out than any other Dem candidate, and that in such a Congressional environment, there's no way she could pass a plan like hers or Edwards'.

Take the healthcare thing out, and Edwards and Obama sound a lot alike. And Edwards has even said at debates, not exactly mincing his words, that a vote for Hillary is a vote for the status-quo.

socctty:

Thing is, healthcare is HUGE with the Edwards. Despite her denials, I don't think Elizabeth has much love at all for Obama. She seemed to want her husband in the White House more than Edwards did.

Also, Edwards seems to have a blind spot to Obama's style of boxing. He sees HRC as the fighter because she's loud. Edwards doesn't seem to grasp that Obama's quieter approach has allowed him to survive.

If the Edwards DO endorse, it will be in the next week. I don't think it will lure Gore out of the Batcave but, should Obama manage to come within 5-6 digits of HRC in PA, maybe he'll appear before NC???

Good Grief! I feel really sorry for many of you. If ever I have seen such back biting and throat cutting, negativity... it is in this forum!

As for Hillary Clinton not being at the endorsement of 100 Mayors... She didn't have to be.. Was she actually standing next to the many individuals who have endorsed her along the way? She was not a no show!~ she was taking care of the very things in her campaign that she needed to be doing like.. Uh.. preparing for a debate ..that should have been serious on issues .. not GD lapel pins! ...that debate turned out to be a joke ...because the Media can't do their job right.

And where, may I ask, do you people get your information... This is, I believe, the only forum I have seen where it is said that "the only reason for the 100 mayor endorsement was to get back at BO' for his comments of small town Pa.

I'll have you know that, I am one of the 100 Mayors of a small Pa. town, who are supporting HRC. Because SHE is the brightest bulb in the box. She is far more experienced and has the drive and sensibility it takes to stand up for not only this country and the people who share it,(including some morons~ I just wish I could wave a magic wand and give everyone some common sense).. but for all that is at stake here. I'm sick of families torn apart ~burying their children for no good reason, gas prices through the roof, jobs lost, groceries you can't afford and the fear of losing your homes. GWB has the intelligencia of dead wood. She has far more common sense than most of you give her credit for. Having met her myself, I can tell you she is as gracious as any woman should be and yet she is truly a Steel Magnolia. Trust me, she’s got guts girls/boys...and I'll stand beside her any day!

I have the utmost respect for Sen. Clinton as well as in this run for President. Not just as a woman, but a woman who ran for an elected office in small town Pa.. and WON with a 2-1 disadvantage.. I can tell you that the tides they are a changin' !... I have leveled the playing field here in Small town.. and can tell you with certainty that the voters here overwhelmingly chose HRC in this primary... and Oh by the way .. Pennsylvania stays BLUE .. and Hillary's our gal!!

Some think she does not 'deserve' to be President, but she sure as hell deserves my support, along with countless other rational thinking human beings.

I also happen to like Senator Obama very much and in fact, will support him should he get the nomination. I simply have my doubts as to how strong he can be as President right away, if he has to learn the ropes along the way. Personally, I think he would be so busy studying what a President actually does, and fitting into the routine that he will not be able to attend to the very important matters that need to be taken care of right away..
He would have to be ready on Day One... and he is not that candidate. She has more experience in the field, having seen that side of business and knows what can and can't be done and how long it takes to get those things done.

My major CONCERN with Sen. Obama is that he thinks he will just get up on his hearty steed and simply "change the way politics are done in Washington" His quote ...This my friends, is an extreme pipe dream.
... I believe he would be in for some seriously major disappointment kids... 'cause you don't just single handedly change Washington!
Not to mention, that is not the terms he should be thinking in.. there are far more important tasks at hand!

So I say Good Luck Sen. Clinton and lets keep fighting!! I look forward to calling her Madam President!
...and just one more thing...BB mom... big fat buffoon ???... she is a load of dynamite!! ..at a very petite 5'4" and weighing in at about 110 lbs... Don't under estimate this "little bomb with a great big bang!" my quote!
