McCain Ignites!

15 Apr 2008 10:14 am

John McCain's second general election ad drops today in "targeted" marks in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Here's the script:

ANNCR: As President, John McCain will take the best ideas from both parties to spur innovation, invest in people and create jobs.

Taxes -- simpler, fairer.

Energy -- cleaner, cheaper.

Healthcare -- portable and affordable.

Workers retrained, mortgage debt restructured, education transformed.

Initiatives that will unite us and ignite our economy.

Big ideas for serious problems. John McCain.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

Ambinder exclaims!

Ugh. Political ads are so uninformative. This ad is hardly the worst offender (that dubious honor probably belongs to Clinton's ad about being a girl from Scranton), but it isn't good either.

Taxes -- simpler, fairer.

I thought he just said that he wanted to propose a parallel tax system. How can you say simpler and fairer when you've got two tax systems and everybody with any amount of cash (i.e. who can buy TurboTax or go to H&R Block) will simply run both sets of calcs and pay the lowest tax available.

Healthcare -- portable and affordable.

I thought he was a "market forces" guy on healthcare. Is he just hoping on the "affordable" part?

Sounds like typical campaign promises with no specifics. Sorta' like he Iraq policy, which is only specific about the fact that he wants to stay. More and more, the "straight talker" seems like an empty suit.

Well that was in depth...simpler..and fairer..my god. too much.

Good job missing the point: McCain is drinking Obama's milk shake.

A McCain presidency would ignite this country. It would burn it right down to the ground after Bush soaked it in gasoline and got the embers glowing.

Has McCain's run back to the center begun?

Has McCain's run back to the center begun?
I think he's given up waiting for the Dems to affirm their decision and has decided to seize the center, leaving Obama to the left and Hillary performing mop-up on the right.
