Romney To Ask Donors To Contribute To McCain, Listen To Beach Boys

04 Apr 2008 02:18 pm

Mitt Romney's "national leadership team" will meet in Houston, TX on Friday, May 9 for a "reunion," according to an e-mail invitation obtained by this column.

And Steve Roche, a top Romney fundraiser, writes in the e-mail that Romney "will be hosting a breakfast to kickoff his fundraising efforts for Senator John McCain on Saturday, May 10th."

He continues: "The Governor has asked his supporters to help Senator McCain’s campaign financially. To that end, I will be following up with you in the next few days to discuss how you can help."

Should Romney's visage not be enough, the invitation says that the Beach Boys will be playing for assembled guests.

The full e-mail is after the jump.

I hope this note finds you well. You may have already received the attached invitation from L.E. and Ginny Simmons, but I personally wanted to invite you to a reunion with Mitt Romney and the Romney for President National Leadership Team featuring the Beach Boys on Friday, May 9th in Houston, Texas.

The Governor is looking forward to seeing many of you again at the reunion and we hope that you can join us for this very special event.

In addition to the reunion, Governor Romney will be hosting a breakfast to kickoff his fundraising efforts for Senator John McCain on Saturday, May 10th. The breakfast will begin at 9:00am and I’ll forward the details as soon as they are finalized.

The Governor has asked his supporters to help Senator McCain’s campaign financially. To that end, I will be following up with you in the next few days to discuss how you can help.

I hope you can join us for this weekend of events. Please let me know if you will be able to attend.

"Uh, this is Houston. Uh, say again, please? Houston, we have a problem."

If you've heard the Beach Boys lately, you'd understand why they fit together so perfectly with Mitt Romney. Both have changed their tunes radically over the years, and neither one for the better.

If they sing "Barbara Ann," my head will explode.

So, presumably, will many Iranians'.

Let's not forget that "The Beach Boys" in 2008 consist of nothing more than the odious Mike Love backed by anonymous hack musicians.

Mitt must have got a peek at McCain's medical records.

Just to be clear - this kind of shit wouldn't fly with Brian Wilson. Mike Love sucks the big one.

With a lot of Democrats "engergized" by Obama, it is good that the Republicans haven't completely "lost" their own drive and desire to work hard - as exemplified by people like Mitt Romney. The guy rubs me a little the wrong way, but far more importantly - I want someone with brains and enthusiasm and ability to get things done - pragmatic nerd or not. Yeah, we all could have a beer with Dubya, but we sipped that beer for 8 years watching that bumbling idiot in action. And Sweet Obambi sounds like a wonderful man to chat with over wine spritzers with his sugardaddy Pritzkers, but like Bush, you can imagine him desperately giving soaring speech after speech while America heads even further downhill.

Of the candidates, I think McCain is the best, but barely - given his pet causes, treachery with other Republicans, ignoring domestic matters for "more important foreign stuff".

I wish Romney had gotten over his bad strategy to run and appeal to the Fundies just when a slick Fundie entered the race and run as a "fixer of things."
Much was kicked down the road since Carter's time, and we have major problems in America that desperately need fixing. For those things, I think Romney would be the best President: (1)Getting a bipartisan, coherent national energy policy we can work on (2)Beginning the fix on health insurance, out of control costs; (3)America's economic resurrection, notably in Midwest states; (4)Devising Fair Trade vs. give the store away to China practices that Democrats also want;(5)The strategic audit of the entire Fed Gov't budget Romney promised, with waste-cutting and a return to Pre-Bush goals of fiscal responsibility; (6) A guy the Euros and Asians know and like;(7)A leader of Republicans of high ethics, who will not tolerate the endemic corruption and betrayal of voters interests that went on under Bush, Hastert, De Lay, Lott, and the hapless Frist.

My hope is McCain wins, but Romney, selected as VP, replaces him soon.

Agree with you about Romney, Chris. But what the heck is a "Fundie"?

I won't be sending anything to McCain. After Romney dropped out and I had to start investigating the candidates all over again, I realized that Romney's abortion position was the same as Ron Paul's. Curious, I read more about Ron Paul's other positions and found myself agreeing with them.

Sorry Mitt, but I don't endorse who you endorse.

copp, I do think that CF was using the term 'Fundie' in reference to fundamentalists. In other words, Romney sort of went a bit too far in that direction to seal up the base, easing up on his strength which of course was and is being a pragmatic problem solver, a reformer in other words.

Will they play "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"?

Let's hope they play Hang on to Your Ego!

I hope Rommey is on the second ticket, we need a business man in office. If it were left up to me you would be automatically disqualified if you are an attorney and do not have at least 10 years experience running your own busiess.
When are people going to wake up and realize we have a very large corporation (The United States Of America) and it needs to be run like a corporation with the bottom line in mind and get rid of about 50% of the fat in the budgets.
The example of New Orleans is a classic, the local govenment wants 250 BILLION dollars for the fix, that means that every man woman and child that was effected by the hurricae would receive several million dollars EACH! Does that make any sense to you, I bet it wouldn't make any sense to a real business man...

The Beach Boys? I wonder what he's up to...

Well, the picture looks appropriate. Guy in a convertible, at the beach, with a date, and it looks like he is wearing a suit.

But the girls shoulders are uncovered, a Mormon no-no.

electronic voting machines must go. Mitt possibly is most qualified canidate ever and is certianly a juggernaut in Republican party and isnt going anywhere. Politics is bs, Dems and GOP havent solved and issuse for decades they all suck, but a guy like romney has shown COMPOTENCE and he seems to communicate and educate in simple terms so people get whats going on.

traveling in airplanes is safer than ever dont get sold on the medias flavor of the week marketing campaign, travel away

Don't try to play too much into this.... The Beach Boys Songs are classics.... Played by professionals it reminds us of our youth... It is straight laced music. Mitt is strait laced and McCain is straight laced... Republicans are straight laced... Houston is beautiful in the spring. Good for us... Good for our party.
I would like to see a McCain Romney ticket... If that is the plan... I am not going to sit this out just because I don't get my way... I am Republican all the way... Compared to who? Democrats? Independants? We need to get on with the plan and be the leadership party... After all this is The "United" States of America..

I went to the Romney Reunion last night. It was fabulous! Mitt and Ann looked and sounded great. The Beach Boys were fun, fun, fun! Thanks to L.E. and Ginny Simmons for making this happen.

Those you put down on Mitt Romney don't have no idea what kind of man Mitt is!!
He is humble, honest, smart, and knows what he is doing!! Shame on you to those of you who are ignorance!!

Go McCain/Mitt 08'

Saw the group last Sunday night at the Pechanga Indian Reservation. The band was INCREDIBLE! Vocals and musicianship was truly amazing! I am a musician and must say the Vocal arrangements were spot on. I can think of no group ever with such rich vocal harmonies. To be truthful, I never expected anything this great live! Blew me away!mm
