The Daily Five: Who Else Is Bitter?

15 Apr 2008 05:03 pm

1. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid makes fun of Barack Obama, sort of.

2. Jill Zuckman spent four days in Kosovo with Cindy McCain and came home with a detailed profile of a woman who might be a very dynamic first lady.

3. Friends of the Earth is spending several hundreds thousand dollars on this television ad which will run on nationwide cable and in select spot markets:

4. The latest analysis of press coverage from Tom Rosenstiel of the Project for Excellence In Journalism:

Republican John McCain was a significant or dominant factor in only 35% of the campaign stories last week. But though he trailed both Hillary Clinton (56%) and Barack Obama (46%) in exposure, he was the winner when it came to the media narrative for the week of April 7-13, according to a Project for Excellence in Journalism study.

Both Clinton and Obama found themselves entangled in negative story lines last week. The Clinton campaign had to deal with the demotion of chief strategist Mark Penn and former President Bill Clinton’s remarks resurrecting the flap over his wife’s statements about dodging sniper fire during a 1996 trip to Bosnia. The Obama campaign found itself on the defensive late last week after the news surfaced of the San Francisco fundraiser where he talked about people in small towns being “bitter.”

Meanwhile, McCain was bolstered by some positive poll numbers and a discussion of the GOP “veepstakes” which tends to remind voters that he is the only candidate thus far certain to be on the November ballot. With General Petraeus’ trip to Capitol Hill last week, much of the media narrative also focused on the issue on which McCain has staked his candidacy—the Iraq war.

5. John Sylvest, retired CEO of Louisiana Bank and a pro-life Catholic, has gathered some friends together and launched Roman Catholics For Obama.

Don't you mean who "would" be a very dynamic first lady, not who "will" be?

Um, Marc - Freudian slip? Cindy McCain "will" be a dynamic first lady?

I hope this isn't what you really meant to say:

"Cindy McCain... a woman who will be a very dynamic first lady."

Don't we have to hold an election first? I know it's pretty much pro forma these days, but it seems a bit early to be coming to conclusions... :)

Jill Zuckman spent four days in Kosovo with Cindy McCain and came home with a detailed profile of a woman who will be a very dynamic first lady.

Yep, and so honest. It's actually rather amusing that she got busted plagiarizing recipes from the Food Network web site and calling them "McCain Family Recipes".

It's Farfalle-gate, I tell you!

Bitter is as bitter does. In a current political ad, 3 year-old Hillary Rodham, arms extended, toddles toward the home-movie camera. Hillary's present-day voice-over explains, the Rodham family cottage, down by the lake, lacked indoor plumbing. Yet, more telling details seem to fall by the wayside. Take twenty-seven year old Hillary's first real job. The upshot: Jerry Zeifman fired Hillary for unethical practices during the Watergate Investigation. Why was Hillary fired? “Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in a recent interview. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

“I have gone [duck] hunting. I am not a hunter. But I have gone hunting," says Hillary. Perhaps as amusing, is how an elitist politician worth over $100 million-dollars, espouses small town family values. Not only does Mr. Zeifman’s account go to character, it goes to a lifelong pattern of lying and obfuscation. It took Zeifman twelve years to get his story aired. After Watergate, Zeifman could not recommend Hillary for any subsequent position of public or private trust, nor furnish her with a letter of recommendation. After that, Hillary's employment record is one of strict nepotism, cronyism, and amnesia.

Although few suspected the lengths to which Hillary would go, a leopard never changes her spots. According to Mr. Zeifman, it’s not just Hillary’s dishonesty; that’s not in dispute. More to the point, Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther, and goes much deeper than anyone realizes. "The Clintons corrupted the soul of the Democratic Party." -Henry Ruth, lead Watergate courtroom prosecutor. Hillary Clinton is a bold-faced liar, who will stop at nothing. Should anyone doubt either Mr. Zeifman, or Mr. Ruth’s veracity regarding the Clintons, dispute this: http://theseedsof9-11.com

Ps. Parental reminder: due to possible long-term side effects, please use caution when teaching a child to quack like a duck.

First, I don't think Reid was making fun of Obama, but the craze over the "bitter comment"

Second, everyone accuses Republicans of fear-mongering, but nuclear power is safe! How many coal miners have died this year? France derives 80% of its energy from nuclear power, mainly because there isn't a culture of fear surrounding nuclear power like there is here in the USA.
It's ridiculous to demand cleaner energy sources, then immediately rule out nuclear.

Reid isn't making fun of Obama.

If he is making fun of anything, it is the people freaking out about the use of the word "bitter" so that would be Clinton and the Press.
