Would Clinton Accept The Veep Slot?

08 May 2008 10:17 am

Horribly premature to ask that question, perhaps, and the conventional wisdom everywhere in the political world is, basically, no way, not Hillary, never.

George Stephanopoulos disagrees:

It's hard to know. I mean, first of all, would Sen. Obama go for it? Can he get over the bitterness of this campaign? Can he be convinced that it's the strongest ticket? Third, of course, would Sen. Clinton take it? I think if it was offered in the right way, yes.

A very close friend of Clinton's told me that accepting the vice presidential nomination in theory was very different than actually being given the chance to become vice president in reality. "Would she accept it? I don't know. But she's never been in a position where's she actually had to contemplate answering the question. It's possible she would say yes."
