DNC Raising Money Off Of 50 State Strategy

10 Jun 2008 10:53 am

The DNC will send an e-mail to its list today touting its "first in a generation" strategy of putting dedicated resources in all 50 states for the general election. David Plouffe, Obama's campaign manager, asks DNC supporters to "answer the call" -- i.e, contribute money -- to help Obama ' fight to unite our party and win contests up and down the ballot." The full e-mail is after the jump.

From: David Plouffe, BarackObama.com
Subject: Our 50-state campaign

Dear FIRSTNAME,

I have some news that I wanted you to hear.

People like you have been the heart of Chairman Howard Dean's 50-state strategy to rebuild our party and empower Democrats to compete everywhere. We've all seen the energy and enthusiasm at the grassroots level impact races up and down the ballot over the last three years.

I am proud to announce that our presidential campaign will be the first in a generation to deploy and maintain staff in every single state.

The network of volunteers and the infrastructure built up during the historic primary season -- on behalf of all the Democratic campaigns -- have given us an enormous and unprecedented opportunity in the general election.

Now it's time to expand our network and push our organizing resources even further. No matter where you live, our success this November will depend on your involvement. Sign up to join our campaign now, and we'll make sure you're aware of all the latest news and opportunities to make a difference:

Of course, some states will be more competitive than others, and we will scale our resources accordingly.

But your work building our party means that the list of competitive states will be longer than ever before -- and it will include states like Virginia and Montana where your work has helped a Democratic resurgence at the state level.

And in every single state, no matter what the likelihood that we carry it in the fall, our staff will build volunteer capacity that will provide help where we need it and impact races up and down the ballot this November.

Every day counts -- voters head to the polls in less than five months. This is your opportunity to shape this election and our unprecedented 50-state campaign now:

Thanks to your support, we are on our way to building an unprecedented organization for the November elections.

As the presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama will

But he cannot determine the outcome of this election on his own.

It will all come down to what you are willing to do.

It's time to answer the call.

Thank you,
David

If I was a Republican, this would be very concerning.

As a liberal, this is great news. Thanks to the Obama campaign that understands grassroots movements. And Chairman Dean, of course.

But why on earth was this not done the day after Gore conceded to Bush? It took until Dean became chair to realize there were Dems in TX?

I took a peak at my local Obama events last weekend and there were 6 registration drives in Milwaukee alone on the same day - in EARLY JUNE. We've been promised this before, but I don't think we've ever seen this type of grassroots organizing. Both Dean and Obama have that spirit.

Say what you want about soaring rhetoric, but the inspiration to action is very real. Any attempt to minimize that would be at your own peril.

The DNC is all but bankrupt.

Less than $7 million cash on hand TODAY.

The GOP has over $40 million cash on hand TODAY.

Howard Dean is a royal F### up! No wonder so many Democrats are leaving the Party and registering as Independents.

Donating money to the DNC is a total waste. The DNC is filled with corruption, and the like of Howard Dean and Donna Brazile are all too happy to lead the way.

A vote for Obama is a vote against Hillary becoming President in 2012.

No votes. No money. No nothing to the DNC and Obama.

Let them eat cake!

Vote McCain 2008
AND
Hillary 2012

Obama has raised more money this year than the whole RNC! So it doesn't matter.

Don't worry about the "Hillary in 2012" people. Those are republicans trying to distract and waste people’s time instead of fixing the mess, they created.

Here's the deal.

I do want to be a part of the grass roots effort to elect Obama.

But I do not want and do not intend to donate one penny to DNC or to anyone with a name of Clinton on the ticket.

The soonest Obama selects a running mate and closes the door to the idea of a Clinton VP the sooner many people can start working to elect him.

Another Clinton is just simply not acceptable for this old woman. It cancels out all the glory felt from Obama campaign.

I realize that there is going to be a fight on the convention floor if he does not place her on the ticket. I realize that he is being pressured by threats and the fear of loss if he does not take her. I realize that slander and slime will come from her minions.

BUT he will not win if he selects her. Let her so called hard core women go where ever they want and back whomever they want. If they are truly American they would accept the results of the primary and support their party's candidate.

That's the behavior that made US and our system different. If every loser in every situation separated and started a fight over the results over every vote then we would soon become just another third world country.

I heard Hilliary herself say that she would accept the VP slot. Now she denies saying it. How can her supporters be so blind to her lies?

Obama should be our next president. Only Hilliary and himself can stop that from happening.

Pick a VP and pick it now.. Place Hilliary in the "also ran" where she belongs. In any competition its not whether you won or lost by one point or by 1000 points... the bottom line is who won..

Obama won and he needs to choose his own VP ...
If he truly wants this person on his ticket..and does not choose her because of the pressure to do so..then that's up to him.

But it will be a sad day when he gives in to her demands to pick her as his VP.

Go to the floor of the convention knowing that no matter what tricks she pulls he can again prevail over her and her tactics thus bringing the change about that he promises.

A vote for Obama is a vote against Hillary in 2012? Sign me up!

Seriously, why would I ever want to return to the Rovian 50%+1 strategy of winning an election???

Gotta love that the the McCain/Clinton supporter above still clings to the exclusionary mindset that certain states (and their voters) "don't matter"- the 50-state strategy created by Dean is what got Webb & Tester in the Senate in 2006 and Travis Childers winning in Mississippi's Special Election for MS-1 this past year.

I think it's pretty amazing what the DNC is doing and the Republican Party should be paying close attention. There's no better time than now to get people excited about change to our Government because so many people are unhappy with the way things have transpired over the last 7 years.

While I think that Obama fanatics expect too much out of him, I think that he can help us to change how other countries perceive the USA and hopefully start rolling back some of the changes that Bush made that are eroding our freedoms.

But - getting people involved like this will really make for an historic election year - one that I am really excited about.

No matter who wins the election this year, there will be a significant change in policy coming from the White House. In case you lefties missed it, Bush isn't up for reelection, and McCain has a very mixed opinion of Bush policies.

At the same time, the ideological difference between the candidates is wider than it has been since 1972. Obama is a black George McGovern, and when he loses this fall, it won't be because he's black, it will be because he's a left-wing extremist. Yes, with Obama, progressives got their day in the sun. But this day won't last for four years.

Nick, I think what you are missing about this cycle is that it is no longer about left vs right or silly labels from the 60s.

This is just about being competent and solving problems.

If McCain thinks he can win this on identity politics and the culture war, he is sadly mistaken.

Whose was the last 50 state strategy?

McGovern's?

In my 72 years, of life and 13 presidential elections I have never witnessed candidates as ill prepared to lead this country as in this current campaign. My family friends, and I are prepared to vote for none of the above. The democrtatic candidate has no portfolio of any accomplishment nor has he defined any ideas and plans to elicit any beneficial "change" in our course. He is without doubt the most left wing, socialist candidate ever and everyone must know that collecvtivism results in all citizens having very little except the effete group of "leaders" whom manage to keep the riches for themselves. The Republican candidate is a mystry and one can only deduce he is a democrat in drag posing as a Republican. Therefore:the choice is between "chicken little" and a duck??? Eu voltara

Joao, you must not have been paying attention for the last few years. The present occupant of the white house was a substance abuser, born with a silver spoon in his mouth who was only able to obtain a degree and stay out of jail due to his father's political connections. His list of "accomplishments" prior to his run for the white house included a stint where he was AWOL (cleared up by his family), several failed business ventures (bailed out by his family), a failed run for state office, and finally a successful run for state office. The present democratic candidate was the president of the Harvard Law Review, graduated Magna cum laude, is a successful author, taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, served as a state legislator, and is presently a United States Senator. The rest of the equally baseless statements and name calling in your post are not worthy of comment.
