Either McCain's anger is rubbing off on his advisors, his advisors' anger is rubbing off on McCain or they are wallowing in a mutually destructive vicious cycle of anger. No matter, Scheunemann's response shows how unhinged the campaign has become. The more they respond in this fashion the easier it is to fit such responses into the already existing "McCain is angry" narrative. Given that Obama is seen as the calm, no drama alternative this cannot help McCain.
The McCain campaign just continues to devour itself. If that was cleared by HQ, I would burn my HQ to the ground.
Something seems very strange about that email. I suspect that if it is genuine,( and I would guess it is, Marc seems to be pretty careful about such things) it will be pretty quickly walked back by the sender, that or the staff has completely lost it. A not for attribution, off the record email stating that is one thing, but to go on record??? Perhaps Scheunemann is looking to get fired?

When people are losing, emotion sometimes takes over. I think that is what happened here. There's a narrative they are trying to sell, and it seems to them that no one is buying. Still, someone in Scheunemann's position, in his paygrade, should have better control. I don't know how one is promoted to his level without it.

Jerome, there is a FLAW in your "argument". You FAIL to understand that Ayers turned himself in to authorities....it was THOSE authorities who failed to convict him. In YOUR mind, he is unable to be rehabilitated without doing time. But G. Gordon Liddy is rehabilitated because he did do time? G. Gordon Liddy didn't just "want" to commit those acts, he officially PLANNED to perform those acts but was stopped before he could carry them out. Second, if you really want to go down this slippery slope of "guilt by association" then I suggest you do your homework within your own party and candidates: Secessionist Sarah, G. Two points: 1. I guess by confirming only the 'palling around' hypothesis, they are conceding that Palin is indeed off the reservation on the other items you mentioned. 2. I don't know about anyone else, but this just bugs me. My definition of 'palling around' is much different than Palin's. I WORK with many, many people that I would never in a million years consider to be my friend or pal. The two are not mutually inclusive. So it may just be possible for Obama to have been on the board and had the coffee klatch and any other odds encounters with Ayers that they want to throw in and still not be 'palling' around with him - why do they use that term?

Many respected citizens of Chicago have "associations" with him. Does this mean they are all his pals? And what's your EVIDENCE for saying Barack's "career" was launched at his house? Huh? In 1980 Ayers and Dohrn surrendered to law-enforcement authorities, but all charges against them were later dropped due to an "improper surveillance" technicality -- government authorities had failed to get a warrant for some of their surveillance. If government authorities had done their job, Bill Ayers would have never walked the streets. I find it terrorizing that we, the people, were made to walk through society all these years with the likes of Bill Ayers on the loose, only to hear the GOP say how frightening he was and is. They point the finger at Obama, but do they dare say how the government agencies that failed to bring conviction to Ayers, were in great need of reform at that time? I suppose that by waving a flag of reform now and that by pointing fingers everywhere except the most important place, it will be a distraction from asking the super important questions. What I think is interesting is that he did not even try to refute the other allegations that Palin is trying to ruin the campaign (Michigan, Rev. Wright). So I suspect the anger is evidence that your basic point is completely correct.
