RNC IE: "The Chicago Way"

09 Oct 2008 06:55 pm

The Republican National Committee's independent expenditure unit is jumping on the Ayers bridge, launching a new ad in targeted markets that seeks to associate Barack Obama with "Chicago" polls.

Obama's relationship with Tony Rezko, Ayers and former commerce secretary Bill Daley are highlighted.

The ad will air in Wisconsin and Indiana, two states who, by virtue of their geographical proximity to Illinois, are theoretically familiar with the context.

Why Bill Daley?  The narrator mentions him after Rezko and before Ayers, as if his transgressions  -- being a "political boss" -- somehow merit comparison. There is the psychological principle of threes: two examples don't really trigger an impression, but three do... hence the inclusion of Daley, who hasn't been accused or convicted of any crime.
