The Daily Bric-A-Brac: Howl

The most effective anti-Palin ad out there might be the Defenders of Wildlife's multi-state, millon-dollar-plus spot on the governor's aerial wolf-hunting activities. It's airing in Northern Virginia, Florida, Ohio and Michigan -- and is about to go up in Missouri and Colorado.

The AP, citing actual tables, writes about how John McCain has a one in four chance of kicking the bucket before his second term is finished. Really? Older people are closer to death?

I like this headline: McCaskill Has 'Joe Biden Moment' by Saying Biden 'Sometimes Says Things That Are Kind of Stupid'

Here's the McCain campaign's response to Obama's "Big Spender" ad: ""Barack Obama is lying with impunity and now he is shamelessly accusing John McCain of being a 'big spender' while failing to cite a single legitimate McCain spending item - not a single new proposal or program."

But the response also includes this amusing line: "
JOHN MCCAIN HAS MADE NO SPECIFIC SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM PROPOSAL, SO IT HAS NO COST:

Jay Cost has a really good take on the politics of the bailout bill.

Vets for Freedom is spending two million dollars to air this anti-Obama ad, and a lot of the airings will be in, of all places, California.
