Write in for "thrown under the bus" ....
Wait - I'm being told that it is "Fire it up. Ready to go." Sorry about that.
Fired up. Ready to go.
Most memorable? Yes we can. Most awesome? It's that F*$)^* priceless quote.
How come "I can see Russia from my house" isn't on here?
The only one that will probably be remembered years from now is "Yes We Can." I voted for the Blago quote, though, because it's brilliant.
there's no was just to signify a wink, is there? maybe like: *wink* p.s. "fire it up"? no way. i remember at a rally in manchester, he actually said "are you fired up? ready to go?". plus, the intonation is all wrong, and you know, google has 20x the number of hits for fired up.
Voted for Blago, Yes We Can will live forever, and "throw under the bus" is the "where's the beef" of 2008, unless you prefer "palling around with terrorists".
Fired up.
"Drill, baby, drill!" is inane (and sounds like porn-flick dialogue), but deserves to be a contender.
I think what I will always remember is "The fundamentals of the economy are still strong" The day the world was an inch from hell and McCain makes this statement, it is more than the H.W moment of infatuation with the supermarket scanner, it will go down as the dumbest thing ever said in presidential history. It's like people on the titanic saying, "it's o.k, the will die slowly" The BEST GAFFE poll, I would pick Sniper fire, I mean that joke writes itself
Before there was "Team of Rivals", there was "Team of Mavericks". Contenders, both.
It's not "fire it up and ready to go." Nor is it "fired up and ready to go." It's "fired up, ready to go." Obama's anecdote ended with "I was feeling kind of fired up..." etc. So it wouldn't make sense to change it to "fire it up."
"Fire it up and ready to go"? Please Marc, please change that. Ugh... I think two phrases will be remembered from this election for a long time. Namely: 1) Yes, We Can 'Yes, we can' because its Obama's catch phrase that encapsulates his entire campaign. 'The fundamentals of the economy are still strong' well because its the dumbest thing a presidential candidate has said in my lifetime. Oh and maybe 'I can see Russia from my house!"
"I can see Russia from my house" -- without a doubt the most memorable catch phrase of the year. It did more to define a candidate and a candidacy than "Fired Up, Ready to Go" did. It's a F*$)^* awesome phrase!
"Fire it up. Ready to go" was a slogan adopted briefly by the McCain campaign, before it realized that giving free barbecue to journalists wasn't a winning strategy.
Agreed with above, it's "fired up, ready to go!" Which is irrelevant, since "Yes We Can" ultimately superceded it. But still.
Umm ... "I can see Russia from my house"? That was Tina Fey.
"Fuck it! We'll do it live!"
"I told the Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that Bridge to Nowhere."
Can't you just see Dave Chappelle mocking you Mr Ambinder? The white version of Obama's campaign cheer- Fire. It. Up. Rea-dy. To. Go! HAHAHAHAHA. Anyone who actually went to a rally knows it's Fired up! Ready to Go! Unless you are really really white!
Ha! This is the best laugh I've had all day. "You betcha!"
No, it's "Fired Up and Ready to Go" not "Fired It Up and Ready to Go". And it's F-E-U-D
tstar says: I think what I will always remember is "The fundamentals of the economy are still strong" It'd be interesting to try to get tstar to backtrack where he got that from, and who reinforced it. Did he ever hear the full quote and not just the misleading outtake that BHO promoted? Did he know the full quote and couldn't help but mislead? Or, now that he knows the full quote, will he keep spouting the same thing, or will he think less of those who only gave him the misleading outtake? Anyway, the top quote is on the following video that Ambinder probably watched a few times per day: youtube.com/watch?v=tX6ohMY0eNY
Sorry for getting off topic, Marc, but.....wow. Whoever posted at 3:40 pm on 12/20 is still trying to argue that Obama's citizenship has not been proven. Supreme Court said otherwise, buddy. Twice. If you don't think their ruling was valid, I'd like to hear your answer to this: How did you feel when they voted in favor of George Bush in Bush v. Gore? Were you complaining then?
Ambinder, you unimaginable twatwaffle, it's "fired up." No "it." Not that a punchline of a reporter like you would care ever to admit your inability to comprehend the full story, I suppose, you shitspewing hack.
Lipstick on a pig.
"Yes we can" wins hands-down from that list, IMHO. But how come no one's suggested "I'm a maverick"?
You know whats even funnier than "Fire it up, ready to go"? "Fired it up, ready to go" - thats what Ambinder just posted as the correction in the next thread. C'mon Marc!
It is definitely and without question "Fired up! Ready to go!" There is no "and". If you've heard it in context, you'd notice that the person leading the chant says "Fired up!", then the audience repeats the line. Then the leader (Obama in this case) says "Ready to go!" and that line is also repeated....and rinse. lather. repeat. until the crowd erupts into a jubilant roar. It's known as "call and response", a traditional communication style in the Black community. It's roots as a style of communication can be traced back to the shores of West Africa.
What about drill baby drill?
It's "Fired Up, Ready to Go." The "I'm" before "fired up" is implicit. OT: Speaking of "call and response," (see above), think of "It Won't Be Long" or "Please Please Me" by the Beatles.
please! how about "that's why I'm running for president"
"Sarah Palin knows more about energy than anyone else in the country." - John McCain. What a couple of morons the GOP put up for office!
How about this? On February 19, 2008 (less than a year ago), Obama said: "I will end the war in 2009, my first year as your president." Yeah, right.
@cato...Aside from the fact that it's not 2009 yet, it takes no effort and little imagination to be a cynic. When was the last time you were bold enough to make a promise the world was willing to listen to?

Mark - it's "I'm fired up and ready to go."
